Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Today has seen the worst storms in recent memory across the central Pyrenees with winds of 145kph causing wide spread damage. Unfortunately one person has been killed and a number of others have had near escapes. Routes to the resorts of Superbagneres and Peyragudes have been closed and it is unlikely that the resorts will be able to open tomorrow. Closures may last longer however the priority at the moment is to rescue and recover people who have been trapped on forested mountain passes due to fallen trees.

The recorded speed on the mountain was over 210 kph, and 156 kph in the valley. Still no first hand news of the resort (Superbagneres) however by all accounts it is very bad indeed. Peyragudes is partially open but only for residents as the road to the resort remains closed. Fortunately it looks like Baqueira Beret missed the worst of the weather and is open as normal.

whoo that is high winds I hope everyone gets rescued safely...........we had high winds here in the Southern French Alpes last night to but nothing like that and it seems calmer here today!

The good news is that the resorts are getting back to some sense of normality. Extensive damage and some lifts will be out of action until the summer however after a few days of very hard work Superbagneres is now 60% open and Peyragudes has 90% of its domain accessible. We do need fresh snow to re-cover the wind blow exposed areas and whiten the pistes as many have a fine coating of dirt dust. Cooler temeratures are expected with the hint of snow in the next few days.
