As Sideways_Junior has effectively put a crimp in our winter activities, Always29 and I are investigating summer skiing in and around the Eurozone. Did L2A last year, but fancy a change from France and was looking at the Hintertux Glacier. Thought i'd ask the Collective Wisdom for thoughts, experiences and musings about skiing and riding the glacier in summer, baby-friendly places to stay etc.
4 (possibly more) adults and a 6-month old looking for a self catering apartment, probably late June.

Richard_Sideways, was there early June last year and had the place to ourselves almost. As you probably know it's a morning sport at that time of year and you might find more going on in the afternoons/evenings if you stay down in Mayrhofen - certainly more baby friendly and better for whoever it is left babysitting. All the apartments are on www.tux.at or the Mayrhofen website.
If you really want to stay in Hintertux... try the Sonne Apartments (owned by Bad Hotel Kirchler) or in Lanersbach the Bergfried Hotel has some brand new ones, swimming pool etc.
There are buses but I'd say a car is a must.

Its a great place. We've stayed in Mayrhofen both times. The summer lift pass for walkers covers the public transport so you can easily get to the skiing (extra charge applies for the ski area)
Hintertux was sunny & icy when I tried it but then it was september and had been sunny for weeks.

Mayrhofen does sound like a better plan - expect we'd hire a car too, don't fancy lugging Jnr too far on public Transport, even if it is Germanically efficient. Thanks for the advice.
I've not skied the glacier, but we had one of our favorite holidays recently staying in Zell am Ziller just down the road.
We got a 10 day pass each that covered a return lift each day, train use and swimming pool use. I loved swimming in the out door pool at Zell am Ziller early evening and looking up at the mountains.

Richard_Sideways, I have stayed in Mayrhofen in the summer (July IIRC) although not for the skiing, and it was lovely.....when it wasn't raining We were assured that the conditions were unusual though, and there was still enough to do, of the "spa days; shopping in Salzburg; relaxing in the hotel" variety. The village and surrounding scenery is gorgeous and the local train which dave_m, mentions, makes getting to other villages along the valley, very easy and nice day out.
