Poster: A snowHead

Not sure this is in the right place but, having spent the last 3 years (holidays that is) in self catering accommodation we fancied booking into a larger or mid sized chalet. We are a family of 4, children aged 13 and 11, all pretty competent, although the children and myself are starting to travel more quickly than my wife. We have travelled on Eurostar for the past 3 years and enjoy! the extra 2 days on the slopes. On peering through the main brochures a large number preclude children, other chalets are at the 8/10 people size and we are looking to find somewhere that will be socialable! The other and scary point is that we are limited to half term and the UK operators seem to increase their prices by 25% to celebrate this obviously pagan celebration. Any thoughts or ideas on companies or websites that would list chalets or possibly hotels close to the train lines, BSM or Moutiers.
Thanks for your input.

I always recommend skibeat but I would try to get together a group to get the group discount.

martyngb, I recommend Optimum in Villaroger see http://www.optimumski.com/ . Very friendly large chalet in a great location. They will pick you up from BSM no problem. Half Term may already be booked up though as it is very popular.

I will try to dig out the details of the last chalet hol that I went on before my father said I had to start paying (I believe that they are still running but it is 11 years since we were there) if you want it.
Very nice chalet in Val d'Isere - all rooms en suite - gold fittings in the bathrooms - cost £600 per person for the week all that time ago so can't imagine what they will charge now. I was their first ever guest to sleep under the very nice dinner table after a hefty night out - posh chef found me there in the morning - apparently they had never seen such behaviour before...

We found Silver Ski really good with kids as well. Try a search on some of the other operators for opinions

Have you thought about renting a self catering chalet, rather than going for the catered option. You will save a lot of money this way. Take a look at http://www.interhome.co.uk for a good selection accommodation particularly for Switzerland. If you didn't already know Switzerland is great for the independant skier in that everywhere in the mountains is served by rail and a post bus making that crucial transfer from the airport to the resort really easy. You only need to remember that you need to be careful that your holiday accommodation is reasonably close to the amenities so that once arirved your accommodation is not too far away from the bus stop. Even better do what we always do, chuck everything in the car and drive to snow. Journey times vary but you can be in the snow between 9 and 12 hours from arriving in Calais depending on where you are going.

Ski Olympic are very good with children and teenagers especially at half term, but you need to book now for next year. There Chalet Hotels are a nice size and you usually get a good mix.

We stayed in one of the Thomson chalets in La Rosiere at Christmas. There are 5 chalets, some Crystal, for 10-12 all together in one building. They are very family friendly. Eurostar got us into the chalet at 8am on the Saturday, we left at 8:30pm, 8 full days skiing. It's just over 30 minutes to BSM.

martyngb, We were going to book with Neilson because they exclude children unless the whole chalet is booked, but they can't do the Ski Trains for next year (yet). We are now going for Skiworld ( http://www.skiworld.ltd.uk/ ) but they seem to have no such exclusion, will even give a discount for your 11 year old, and are taking bookings for the Ski Train. Their children policy doesn't suit us (we want to be child free) but may suit you. You're not planning Tignes on 11th March are you?
