I've booked a trip to Cervinia and am planning to ski over to Zermatt on 1 or 2 days. As well as euros for the italian side do I also need to take some swiss francs or do the restaurants also take euros in Zermatt?

SCollier1, Take swiss francs - you can use euros on the Swiss side, but they factor in an exchange rate that goes against you (advice from a banker) - there are some fantastic restaurants on the Swiss side. Have a great trip.

Don't bother with the 'international' pass. I was in Cervinia two weeks ago, Zermatt was a nightmare of overcrowding, overcharging and appalling outdated, disjointed infrastructure. A waste of 60 Euros over and above the Cervinia local pass.
Spend two days over at Valtournenche, the pistes are empty and the food is fantastic.

If you are only going over to Zermatt for 1 day it is cheaper to buy the local pass and then buy a €30 upgrade for that day. At €190 for the 6 day local pass and €247 for the international pass you really only gain from the latter if you go over 3 or more days.

We just booked Cervinia with Crystal for next season, and got 2 for 1 on local passes

chrisdavis, I seemed yo think that if you went once it was worth just buying the extension in the first place. We spent 50% of our week in each resort.

ccl, Just looked at the Zermatt & Cervinia websites.
Zermatt 6 day 359 SF = £225
Zermatt/Cervinia 6 day 405 SF = £254
--------
Difference £ 29
Cervinia 6 day 190€ = £171
Cervinia/Zermatt 6 day 247€ = £222
--------
Difference = £ 51
Conclusion: Buy your lift passes in Cervinia, with Crystal on a 2 for 1 deal.

A worthy distraction indeed, although not for skiing friends of mine whose lunch is sandwiches on a gondola in order not to lose skiing time. Now I love my skiing, but part of the whole experience is the sun-soaked terrace of a mountain restaurant for the hot chocolate/beer/lunch/vin chaud break.
We skied in Zermatt last season, Spyderman and Cervinia just a couple of weeks ago. For various reasons including cost we weren't struck on Zermatt for a return visit. We had skied over to Cervinia one day. liked what we saw, liked the price of coffee and so were more than happy to give it a try this year. I hadn't spotted the difference in lift prices but with that 2 for 1 offer it makes the cost comparison between the two resorts all the more in favour of Cervinia.
By the way, the local Cervinia pass also includes Pila and Crystal offered an escorted day in Pila for €25
