Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi all. Planning trip snowboarding to Austria (open to france either)with 12yr old daughter in Jan. Ideally will be 2wk of Jan or poss 3rd. Wk.
Flying from Dublin, apreski not important, short transfers, probably a week but not stuck on that ,5days would work. Decent amount of pistes. Am very flexible on dates and short notice if necessary.
So are my best options
1. Book a flight now to innsbruck then as close to departure book accommodation and use either public transport or other to get to resort??
2. Wait till last minute and look for deals with tour operators.
Other options that I'm only luke warm on

3. Tag along with inlaws to Bulgaria during mid term.

4. Poland.

I’ve found booking yourself rather than a TO gives you flexibility and tends to be cheaper

Stop naval gazing re; where. Innsbruck is a good jumping off point for short trfs to great skiing, either by public transport or rental car. Book flights to Innsbruck now if you know your dates (flight don't tend to go down) then sort everything else out later after a bit more research like resort and local transport and accommodation .

Next, I’d decide on an area and book accommodation. Mid Jan should make everywhere ok for snow, pick one that suits what sort of skiing you want.

If you fancy a rental car, you can also book it now but make sure its cancellable (lots of these deals around) then keep an eye on prices periodically and cancel and rebook if it makes sense.

Thanks for advice. Also what would be the better resorts for slopes in the innsbruck area???

1) You could also fly Dublin to Salzburg (Sat & Sun departures in 2025) which would open up all of the resorts in Salzburgerland and the adjacent resorts in Tirol. Kitzbuhel, Zell am See, the Ski Circus (Saalbach/Hinterglemm/Leogang/Fieberbrunn), Maria Alm/Hochkonig and many more are all within an easy transfer from Salzburg.

2) TO from Ireland can be good value in January. If you don't know much about Austrian resorts it will be more difficult for you to put together a DIY trip that comes in cheaper or better than a TO trip (although of course Snowheads can help with insider info and tips about specific places).
