Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

April skiing in Italy?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Does anyone have any info on resorts which are open towards the end of the season in Italy.

We are thinking of getting away for a few days skiing between the 11-18th April , and thought Monte Rosa maybe worth a visit.

Does anyone know if it's still open at this time of year?

If not has anyone heard of any others which would still have good off-piste skiing!

Thanks for all your help.

MonteRosa, as beautiful as it is, will be a big gamble that late.
Really depends on whether it is a good "natural snow" year or not.
Seems to be reasonable this year": Gressoney has got 110-160 at the moment.

Seems they are open until april 11th only. When snowcover is still good, they extend the season, but they only decided that somewhere end of march.

Cervinia will be open and good coverage.

Madesimo normally gets massive amounts of snow - should be OK too. Plus legendary offpiste on the Valle di Lei side + Canalone.

Livigno also a sure bet, but not so easy to get there.
Passo Tonale (bottom valley village = Ponte di Legno) also very snowsure.

Dolomites will probably have reasonable coverage still, but 100% artificial. Dolomites is very dry. No offpiste.
Your only good prospect in Dolomites is Arraba, steep and north-facing, plus close to Marmolada.

Madesimo does look interesting, but we were looking closer to the French/Italian border.

Any other suggestions? Switzerland maybe if Italy is not guaranteed? Puzzled

La Thuile is usually open late and everyone who I know who has gone at Easter (including the equivalent week) has enjoyed it. Can't speak from personal experience at that time though.

The go to La Thuile.
Very snowsure, due to:
1) Massive snowfalls over the whole season, due to proximity of Mt Blanc.
2) Northfacing treeruns bach to the village
3) Extensive snowmaking

The slopes toward the Pt St Bernard pass offer plenty room and good quality snow for offpiste.
As a bonus: there's the option of helicopter droppings on the Ruitor glacier.
