Or can I just buy a mens one? Have been trawling the internet, hate all the ladies ones, have found one I really like but its for men. The Head website says that its best to buy a ladies one... I'm confused... advice please
The one I like is a Head Rebel Blue

Ladies halmet = one in a silly colour with flowers on. Unless you've ever noticed a major difference between men's and women's heads.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Well my teenage daughter is perfectly happy with the unisex decathlon helmet, says it fits fine and like Lizzard can't say I've ever noticed a gender specific head shape!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Beks1969, it may be best to find one that fits rather than waht the label says and I'd really recommend you go in a shop to try. I wear a child's helmet because it seems I have a tiny heid - it would be madness to wear a women's one if it doesn't fit.
All this talk about shiny helmets - and mine has got furry flaps.

Beks1969, whichever fits best, don't buy on internet unless you have tried on. I have a women's helmet purely because it was lighter and a better fit than the blokes/unisex one. If anything I was slightly embarrassed by the graphics, but have covered some of them with a certain sticker.

Beks1969, I was put off by the ladies models too - all pink and floral, yuk! I did notice that there was quite a difference in fit between the models, so there's no way I could buy one without trying it on (I went to about 3 different shops before I found something that fitted well anyway), and a helmet that doesn't fit will either be uncomfortable so you won't wear it, or won't protect your head as well as it could. I see your point though - the men's designs do seem to have more effort put into them style-wise.
I ended up with a kids one, which was cheaper, and thankfully plain in colour as I don't think they would successfully sell many pink floral helmets to young boys

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I have a straightforward giro - but having tried on about 20, including several different Giros, there was only one which fitted properly. Definitely not a good item to buy on the internet. I had helpful service from Snow and Rock in Port Solent - assistant explained what to look for in a good fit, and patiently brought me loads to try.

You know it makes sense.

Rather worryingly me and my partner have ended up with matching helmets, one XS & one XL. Smiths, which have plenty of adjustable bits and no offensive graphics of any kind. We both tried on quite a few before finding ones to fit.

Some of the women specific ones say they are a better/more comfortable fit if you have a ponytail - i think it's to do with the cut of the liner at the back. Not an issue for me as my hair is cropped, so I can't comment on if they fit better when I was trying various ones on a couple of months ago, but may be worth looking into if your hair is longer.

Beks1969, it's also worth taking your goggles with you if you wear them and you're heading to a shop to try on the helmets.

Thank you all for your helpful and interesting comments. Will definitely go and try before I buy, just like to see what's out there first. Taking my goggles sounds like a good idea too. Not worried about the ponytail problem, I tend to plait the unruly mess for skiing.
Thanks all!! And GOD, it's such a miserable day today!!
