Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Downhill v Super G

Todays Super G seemed to start and end at the same places and follow the same route as the DH. Each one timed run. No gates to turn round in the Super G.

Can anyone quickly define the actual differences between the two, please?

Nope there are gates. In fact there are still gates if you like in Downhill in that they mark the boundaries of the course and you have to stay between them.
Super G gates are closer together than GS but not as close at DH. SG tends to be turny most of the time and not have long glide-y bits like DH.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Jerry, SG gates are actually further apart than GS gates.
A Dowhill course has to have a minimum vertical drop of between 800m to 1100m. There are gates which as you say have to be passed throughthey do not actually mark the boundry of the course but are still turning gates.
Super G has a minimum drop of between 400m to 650m. There is a minimum number of 35 gates for men & 32 for women.
They can be on the same slopes as each other but the SG is normally much shorter (30 secs in this case) and much more technical with the number of gates in compared to Downhill. As its name suggests it is a big fast long GS, - Super Giant Slalom!
T-Dub, Don't know which race you were looking at if you didn't see any gates to turn round. What about the ones that the racers crashed through!!

Plugboy, Well spotted, just testing you Wink
Plus I was concentrating on T-Dub's request to

quickly define
the difference, as he probably wants to watch it, not set the course. I imagine we could just have linked him to the FIS site Wink
