hey guys i am about as new to skiing as i am this forum i went skiing for the first time last weekend and loved it so im looking for advice on a set of skis i am @250lbs and 6' tall i rented some 150cm skis when i went do u think this is the right size?ive seen a bunch of used skis on ebay is that a good source to get some skis to start with?i dont really know anything about skiing so any help will be greatly appreciated,maybe just a basic setup that i can grow into!thanks for your patience.

And those skis are way too short for you longer term. Might have been ok for learning, but after a week or two you'll want something significantly longer than that.
I am about the same height and weight as you, and the shortest sensible ski is probably 160cm, and many would suggest 167cm+

mignum, you're in Tennessee? Where do you ski?
Ober Gatlinburg? Sugar or Beech? Out West? New England?
In order of importance:
Ski boots >more important than> Ski type (model, design) >more important than> Exact size.
3 important things to remember here:
Do NOT buy ski boots by US shoe size.
Do NOT buy ski boots off Ebay without trying them.
Do NOT buy -any- ski gear from Craigslist or other used advertisement, for your first ~5 or 6 years in the sport anyway, (until you know enough to recognize ripoffs and recognize obsolete junk)

Using US shoe size for ski boots is like using your 6' height to buy dress slacks. Worse, really.

Ah. You can get away with a far shorter ski there than elsewhere, in fact I'd say ~50% of the skis talked about on this forum would be useless or overkill at Gatlinburg.

there used to be a decent discussion here:

the simple answer would be to go to someone who is good at fitting boots (usually found at more popular mountains).
but, basically, you try the shell on without the padding inside until you find a shell that is close enough, then put the liner back in and look for problem spots.
