Snow Reports

Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Maplin are selling a Sports GPS device for £49.99
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=228592
Would this work on the slopes? I can't see why not? Does anyone have one? What do you think? I can't afford a top of the range GPS system but would like something to measure how far I travel when I go skiing early next year. Any responses would be gratefully received.

I've just bought one. It seems very good value compared to the Garmin ones. I'm getting the odd spurious speed but I'll let you know how I get on with it. I should be able to delete them later on the PC using the software supplied.
There are a couple of good reviews on the web.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Holux GPSport 245 GPS and datalogger
This bit of kit worked brilliantly
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=228592
It was easy to use, the batteries easily lasted all day (up to 18 hrs). It kept a check of fastest speed and distance skied and stored 6 days ski data until I got home.
The supplied Holux software shows all your tracks on your PC to compare runs etc, but also can export to Google Earth and EveryTrail but using the program by snowhead Fishslice here

lets you identify lifts and runs
Have a look at

or

I'd certainly recommend it for skiing
