We are staying in Flachau when the nightrace is on in Schladming. Google is telling me that the drive between resorts is around 30mins so I was wondering whether it was practical to take a taxi from Flachau to Schlad to see the nightrace and then back again? We do not have a car and have already skied the Schladming area so heading there during the morning to ski all day is not going to work for us. I was thinking we could ski Flachau area all day, then take a taxi when the lifts close. In the back of my mind though 30mins in event traffic would turn into 2hrs and then we would just spend all evening queueing to get in/get a drink/spot to watch for the odd glimpse of a skier, when we could be holed up in a nice bar in Flachau watching it on the TV. Any thoughts? Is any aggro worth it for the atmosphere it seems to be famous for?

@boon123, it will take longer than 30 mins by the time you park (edit: not by taxi but will still take longer) but not so much as 2 hours. You could get a taxi to Radstadt then get the train or bus (I think). A taxi from Flachau to schladming will be c€70 each way.
You say that skiing in Schladming is not going to work for you yet that area is 4 or 5 times the size of Flachau which you can cover in half a day. It seems to me that it is the most sensible way to get there without a car. You could ski Radstadt Altenmarkt and taxi from there at the end of the day to save a bit of time/money

The trains from Radstadt are packed for the night race (there aren't many) and the buses take longer due to traffic. My advice is, get there as early as you can.

There's a thread from last year on this somewhere. My only comment to add to those above was that those who watched on the Big Screen in Schladming town centre seemed to have a better time than those who flogged up to the hill and probably a quicker exit too. By the time you've got a taxi to the station in Radstadt you might as well go the whole way in it.

Why not bus to Reiteralm in the morning and then ski across to Schladming during the day? Taxi still going to be a pain and not cheap, but at least it's only one way. Or if you're staying at a hotel/chalet maybe ask and see if they're able to organise transport.
I think whether the hassle is worth it depends on your frame of reference and why you're going there. Do you follow the races or have a desire to be in that crowded atmosphere or are you thinking of going because it's Schladming and want to tick a box?
nb. I've not been during race week so have no idea what the pistes will be like, I assume very busy during the day but less busy from mid to late afternoon as people get into position/drunk.

I agree, (even though I made the alternative suggestion).
The OP could call into the Huber Taxi Office next door to the BBV centre and ask if they are doing any shuttles.
