Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

To try and save money on hire charges I’m donating my old skis (ROSSIGNOL VIPER-S) to my son – he has the same size feet as me – but no boots yet.

I’m going to get some cheap 2nd hand ones (because I’m tight). I know that the ski boot length does vary from make to make but I’m hoping the binding will take up any slack/excess. Is this a fair assumption?

they are generally adjustable within a certain tolerance - yes. But get them properly adjusted.

And maybe not post on snowheads about the advisability of buying second hand ski boots....... wink

griffterski, There is usually about two UK shoe sizes of adjustment in the binding.. so if you both have similar shoe sizes you'll be OK. Otherwise any ski shop can re-mount the bindings to suit the new boots.

griffterski, It's not only the binding length that will need adjusting . . . the DIN setting might need adjusting too, as weight, age and ability are also taken into consideration.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

the vipers (IIRC) have an easily adjustable sliding rear "bit" - whcih easily adjusts - you just need to get a screwdriver underneath it and lift it up and slide
But watch out whether the boots' cnetre mark is significantly different from that on eth ski
