Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

going over to canada end of feb , and looking at exchange rates . there is a big difference between changing money over here , uk to dollars , and exchanging english money while over there . travelex rates today are 1.62 in uk and 1.69 at calgary airport . make a difference of $200 cn when changing £2500 .
just wondering what everybody else does when changing currency on their hols
over here or over there ?

Big wad of cash that to take out- I tend to take out around £500 or so depending on what I'm doing/where I'm going- order through Travelex and pick up at the airport before departure.
On £500 the differences in exchange rates from shopping around are fairly minimal- the sum you're talking, I guess makes more difference. Is there any fees for buying over there? Presume you won't carry £2500 in sterling cash so would be a card transaction.
Of course- theres always the gamble the rates will go the wrong way by the time you leave, so you might be better off buying now. Only mystic meg can tell you...
No right or wrong answer, in other words!

I normally get currency from http://thomasexchangeglobal.co.uk/

They are usually the cheapest, or if not, very close.

f1l, For Europe, I always use my Nationwide debit card.

For North America, there is a charge for cash withdrawals using it, but the rate is still usually the best you can get and the fee is only 1%, so it will still usually be the best way.

The rate today would be 1.69 CAN to 1 GPB including the 1% fee. To buy $2500 would cost you £1503.33, or to take out the equivalent of £2500 would give you $4241.01. But I don't think you can take that much out of an ATM on one day.
