Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val d'Isere - Ski tuition

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi all,

I'm off to Val d'Isere at the end of February and was looking for recommendations for providers of private lessons - my wife is an extremely nervous beginner (had a few 3-to-1 group lessons in St Anton last year but didn't really take to it) and would need a patient english speaking intructor - ideally one who isn't overly phased by a panicky / upset young woman (excellent but 18 y.o. Danish instructor last yr simply did not know how to deal with her when she got stressed!). Can anyone recommend any of the myriad of ski tuition options?

Thanks in advance,

Aljrob

Aljrob, welcome to Snowheads!

Evolution 2 is an excellent school. I had a couple of technique lessons with them when I was learning a few years ago and they were brilliant - really iomproved my balance. Lots of people on here also recommend mountain masters although I've not used them myself. There are lots of threads around that discuss this very topic that you will find if you do a forum search.

Good luck and have a great time!

HiAljrob,

We have used The Development Clinic and they were very good indeed. I think all of them would be able to deal with a panicky person.

Dublinfella, do you mean 'The Development Centre'? If so, I they are indeed excellent. However, I got the impression that they don't teach beginners - so might not be quite right for Aljrob's wife.

I've heard good things about Evolution 2 - so as sarep says, I reckon that's a good starting point.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Steve Angus with BASS Val d'Isere. He's extremely good with nervous novices.

My partner is a very nervous beginner and is in her 50's. She had some lessons last winter but did not get on very well. This last week she has had private ski lessons from Chris Soulliac of Alpine Experience in Val d'Isere. Although an off piste expert Chris is also a very patient teacher at all skiing levels. My partner has progressed nicely with her skiing, she is still a nervous beginner but she enjoyed her lessons with Chris and had plenty to practice when I have taken her onto the slopes. Chris is an Australian and speaks both English and French.
