Poster: A snowHead

Per this thread http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=83051 I'm looking for a cheap family ski trip and can get a week in mayrhofen dirt cheap. Anyone stayed at these and if so how bad/well located are they?
Have spent 4 weeks in mayrhofen for summer holidays in my yoot, so know the general layout ok(ish). Keen to try skiing there and sample the après.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Stayed in one some years back,it was right beside the main Penken gondola, the accomodation itself was above an electric appliance showroom and seconds from the gondola.

boabski, I went with this arrangement a few years ago and was put in the Obermair:
http://www.thomsonski.co.uk/ski-resorts/austria-ski-holidays/mayrhofen/hotel-obermair/?cmp=Thomson_Ski_Hotels_Austria&kw=hotel%2520obermair%2520mayrhofen&src=TSgsea
I had a single room with no ensuite and the communal bathroom on the same floor was kept locked so I had to go to the floor above. The ski bus stop is outside and it's one stop and only a few mins to the Penken gondola. On the return journey, it's the last stop as the bus does a long loop around town and this takes a while. There are lockers at Penken and renting one of these is a good idea as it's not much of a walk in street shoes. They were advertised as "small and friendly snowhomes" at the time and the Obermair seemed quite large for a pension and not particularly friendly. Not a bad location and if it's cheap enough it's fine but certainly not a place I'd seek out.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks folks. Sounds like a lucky bag, which I thought it would be given the price. The deals are working out cheaper for flights, transfers, accomodation and food, than it is for my flight only using same route with same TO for my week in St Anton with the lads in March - crazy

I've been to Mayrhofen twice, both times I've stayed in "Snow Houses". It was great. One was a traditionally owned family place run by the strict mother, pleasant but limited breakfast. The other was also good, a short walk straight up the road from the Penken, nice sized room and next to a resturant and traditional skittles place. I'd stay with them again.
