Broke my clavicle badly in Courchevel last week. Has this happened to anyone in this forum? Any advice on what to do and what to avoid? I have a nother ski trip planned on march 7th. Do you reckon I would have made full recovery by then?

Have broken both my collar bones in ski-related accidents. Second time I was mid-way through a season and keen to get back asap so I skied on it again after 4 weeks (despite medical advice not to doing anything for at least two months). I avoided doing anything crazy as I knew a big fall would snap it again but it didn't hurt or impede me in any way when cruising around the pistes. I know a few other who have done the same. By March 7th you should be fine.

Broken mine 3 times (cycling).
Well the first time was a proper break, and then 2 fractures.
Luckily if there are no complications then it's one of the easier things to deal with. Normally out and about on the bike after 6 weeks, although you want to avoid big falls after that. I would guess things should be good for March the 7th, imho, but everyone is different. If they do pin it, then it's even quicker from all the accounts I've read of the pro cyclists who break theirs. Just work your way back into it. Hopefully there won't be too many flat spots where you need to pole.

I've broken a clavicle a couple of times, once through football and again skiing. I'm sure you'll agree it does smart a bit. I was out for 4 weeks from football. Stupidly, when I did it skiing I went back on the slopes after a couple of days albeit with one arm strapped down. Depending on the severity of the break 4/5 weeks should do it.

Broke mine a while back - hurts doesn't it? Apart from having my arm in a sling I didn't have any treatment.
Took about 6 weeks before I could ski again. You'll have a bump where the break was forever, but apart from that and a little stiffness in cold weather, no lasting ill-effects.

I've got the bump and the shorter bone as a result.
Never really experienced any real issues with it.
If you're only 31 then 6 weeks should be the max without any qualifications. Although I'm sure your consultant will advise.

Tough call - broke mine falling off a bike just ahead of a ski trip a couple of years ago.
Sympathy 'cos I recall it hurting like a ba**ard. Mine went into 3 bits, but the Ortho Surgeons decided not to fix internally, probably for the best - the Fracture Clnic and Leeds LGI did seem like RSA central . Understand from other cyclists that pinning is effective - until the fracture stabilises the crepitus of underpected movement was a pain to conjour with.
After six week the fracture should be stable, but maybe not fully up to pre-fracture strength. I have found that I now hold one shoulder higher than the other, weird because it is now the non-injured side that tends to ache because of this non-symetry.
Skiing not been a problem, since the break, but I wrote off that ski season after doing mine.
So, sympathy for what thats worth

Bad luck mate - Did mine on 5th day of weeks skiing end of Jan 08 whilst attempting to do some jumps in the snow park at Les Arcs !
I was desperate to make the EOSB that year but in the end just didnt feel I was ready to ski - was driving running etc by then but was concerned that If I fell it would be back to square one !
I did start playing football shortly after that and have had no reactions since.
Mine was a fairly simple break in 2 places which heeled without pinning and no complications

Broke mine skiing 7 years ago and it never knitted back together again, in other words it's still broken. It is absolutely no problem though, I can do everything I ever did before, have no pain, no loss of strength, just means there's a pointy bit sticking out and my right shoulder is an inch closer to my head than it should be!
The doctors finally admitted after 3 months that it didn't seem to be healing but then said that happens in 10% of cases (hmm, not sure about that). I don't really know how this helps answer your question but I guess if you're happy to risk the pain of a fall then maybe there's not too much to risk?
(Caveat: I am not at all medically competant and accept no responsibility for the foregoing statement ).

Snowforever - bad luck, and welcome to the club
I managed to break my right clavicle 2 weeks ago. Surprisingly, not too much pain either at the time or subsequently. (Or maybe I'm just really tough... )
Fortunately, it was a very clean break, close to the shoulder and with no ligament damage. The medical centre in Val Thorens prescribed a 'figure of 8' bandage which is a foam and velcro thing that pulls the shoulder blades back. I am supposed to wear this for four weeks. They also gave me morphine, which was less fun than I had hoped...
Saw an Orthopeadic Consultant at my local hospital this week for further x-rays / checks. Healing well, no complications, "eat a balanced diet, come back in 2 weeks, moderate drinking is OK..."
It's actually kind of interesting how quickly it seems to be healing - noticeably stronger and with a greater range of motion on a day by day basis.
The main problems are that I can't lift anything over about 5kgs with the broken side. Initially, getting dressed and tying shoelaces was difficult due to restricted movement.
I have binned a trip to Val d'Isere in mid Feb - do not want to risk re-fracturing, but am targetting a late March week in St Anton as realistic. Whilst I am sure I could cruise around on blues immediately, this doesn't do anything for me, and want to be able to ski the steeps without worrying too much about repeat snapage.

I had one of those figure of eight things - bl..dy uncomfortable
When I got back to the Uk the doctors prescribed a standard sling which I have to say was much more comforetable
I went to a physio after a couple of weeks and was given a routine of exercises to do which soon built up the strength
