Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Boots - where can I get these fitted?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi

I live in London, and have recently been bitten by the ski bug. I will be going on my 4th trip in February, and decided it is probably wise to now invest in my own boots (the rental ones always hurt me). Where can I get boots properly fitted and for a reasonable price - preferably in greater London?

Thanks Razz

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Between the ankle and lower shin - last time it caused a bit of swelling...I swapped these half way through the trip and finished with a HEAD pair and they seemed much better - but as I am a bit useless/new with all this stuff I don't know if it was the brand that is a different fit or just that the boot was a different style?!

I used Profeet in Fulham, found them to be very knowledgeable although it was my first fitting so I don't have a point of comparison. There are a few threads on the forum with positive feedback on them.

Sounds to me like your boots are trying to make your feet do something they don't want to. You're probably gonna be a lot better off with custom footbeds BEFORE you go to the effort of fitting boots.

A local podiatrist might be able to help - if they understand about skiing. Alternatively, the Profeet name keeps popping up here, although I have never had any experience of them myself.

scared_of_chairlift, I sure others will be along to give advice but the shin pain can be caused by a poorly fitted boot, not much of a fit check occurs in most rental shops so its not uncommon to end up with a boot thats too big and allows you to move about too much in the boot or just worn out liners which give no padding. As Sirius, says Profeet get good reviews. A bit further afield but so does Colin (CEM on s'heads) at solutions4feet.com.

Thank you everyone for your advice - I will check these out. I actually use profeet for running, wasnt aware they did ski stuff too - so may give that a shot.

If you live in London - I would definitely recommend PROFEET in Fulham - google it. You will get a very comprehensive fitting service and boots that feel right and help you to ski properly.
