Our man is in town. Eddie 'the Eagle' Edwards, folk hero of the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics has returned to the country that made his name. He is a VIP guest of the organisers of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and will carry the Olympic flame as one of the torch-bearers. The Games run from 12 to 28 February.

All respect to Eddie, I skied with him at Gloucester dry slope back in the 80's while I was taking the poma up he was running up the side of the slope for each run down. He was a very good skier and probs still is.

In my opinion he's a top bloke.
A few years back the wife for Christmas got me a Skiing lesson with Eddie at Tamworth snowdome. He was a really teacher for the couple of hours and a good laugh in the bar afterwards.

What a legend, my mates live out in Calgary and will delighted to hear that Iron Balls is back in the country. I suspect when they hear this they may be making a wee trip to Whistler

As I understand it, he still holds the record for any UK ski jumper, so yes, better than any (current)

I worked with Eddie in one of the ski shows I used to do in the early 90's. He is a genuinely nice guy to be around. I also skied with him for a bit and he's pretty quick and fearless!
Calgary '88 was a memorable Olympics-not because Zurbriggen finally got revenge upon Muller after the '87 World Champioships at Crans Montana but because of Ernst Hackl's dominance of the luge and, more disturbingly, mens doubles luge. That brought a tear to the eye!

Eddie was always in one of my classes. I can remember retiring to the clubhouse after the slope closed and listening to the thump, thump, thump as he continued to run up and down the slope. Alan was often out there to get him to go home as he wanted to close up. Oh the joys of Thursday evening club-nights!
