Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Alpe Dhuez Piste Map

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Ive just been having a close look at the alpe Dhuez piste map and ive noticed that some of the marked runs are marked
with coloured dots on them.

ie Sarenna is a black but has yellow dots on it. What does it mean?

I first thought it must have meant it was a marked run but not pisted, however they seems to be quite a few of
these markings on the map that are also graded as blues, greens and reds and have dots on them.
Such as Chalets which is a blue
Les Rousses that is a red

Anyone any idea ?

 Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

IIRC it signifies runs which have artificial snowmaking

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It suspect it means either "has snowmaking", or "is sometimes artificially lit".

I have only got a piste map from 2003/04 and on there the coloured dots signify which runs and lifts are available for each of the 4 area lift passes. Alpe D'Huez is yellow, Auris is red, Vaujany is blue and Villard Reculas is green.

Renry, if you mean the one like here: http://www.topskiweekend.co.uk/SiteFiles/images/pistemapsbig/alpedhuez-piste-large.jpg , then the coloured runs (Sarenne with a yellow background, Rousses with red) are the runs you have to complete for the 8k vertical challenge - doing the four 2k (or thereabouts) vertical non-stop descents in one day. It's quite tiring to do without any stopping at all Smile

IIRC the runs are the Pic Blanc to L'Enversin D'Oz (via Tunnel, Rousses, Chalets, La Fare), Pic Blanc to La Villette ( same route but don't turn down La Fare), Pic Blanc down the Sarenne and Pic Blanc to Oz En Oisans (cut off Rousses and head down towards Oz).

You can't ski out on-piste from the Sarenne without taking a lift (unless you want to ski down to Huez village and theres sufficient snow cover), you have to ski down to the point marked Connection Auris on the map and take the so-called Scare Chair up to Bergers, then Marmotte chair up and ski down to the Altiport. Or take the Chalvet chair if running and ski down Campanules

Mid station of the DMC is at 2100m (Poutran)

Renry, no, DMC is the Troncon lift that starts rond-point at the top of the Alpe D'Huez town. If someone says to meet at the DMC (for ski school etc) they'll usually mean at the bottom of this lift. You can't ski anywhere at the bottom of the Sarrenne, you have to catch a lift out. You can take Chalvet chair and then ski the red back to the altiport or the Alpauris chair and then walk or take one of the chairs in the Bergers area to get you enough height to ski to the altiport

Renry, as Sideshow Bob, mentioned, the best route out of the Sarrenne Gorge towards the Altiport area is to take the Chalvet chairlift (based next to the Combe Haute restaurant), this cuts out having to slog the final section of the Sarrenne's flat exit route, you can then ski down the Campanules red to link with the Altiport green piste.
