Hi Snowheads,
Anyone tried the Atomic Metron M:11? Fancy hiring a pair but want some feedback before deciding,

nog, wow! Quite a difference between the b1 and the M:11! Hope you enjoy your b1s, but you should try some Metrons, too. Mine (M:b5s) just get me to "arc'y sparky!"

I have the M:11's. Tried them in a demo session and they stood out head and shoulders above anything else as the right ski for me. Then discovered they were the most expensive pair in the test. Oh well, bought them anyway! Have to say I didn't actually get the chance to ski the B5's, but the M:11's are (I think) the same dimensions as the M:B5's.
Haven't been disappointed with them at all so far - great for on-piste carving (ok not quite as quick edge to edge as a true slalom ski, but I'm not planning to run a lot of gates on them, so who cares) AND off-piste (new snow, and chopped up older stuff), in the trees, even ok in the bumps (any limitation there almost certainly has more to do with my technique than the skis I think). For the mix of skiing I do, they come closer to one-ski-does-all then any I've ever owned before.
If they have any slight downsides it's that they are quite heavy, so you wouldn't want to be carrying them a long way, and possibly that they don't feel quite as quick/stable in a straight schuss as some others I've had in the past (but again the amount of time I spend actually going straight and fast, where keeping the skis on a slight edge and making long arcs isn't a viable alternative, is so minimal that it's really not a problem).
ssh, I take it you've tried both the B5 and the M11? How do they compare to each other?

First off, they are, indeed, the same dimensions. The difference is that the M:11 has the Atomic "Puls" bars while the b5 has the new "Beta 5" profile with the Mg channels. As a result, the b5 is a beefier ski, skiing stiffer and more stable as a result. Now, to be clear, this is not necessarily to say that it is a "better" ski! For some, both the M:11 and b5 are "too much" ski (a number of mid-level skiers I know prefered the M:10)! However, the b5 is more stable, a slightly better "crud buster", and, for some reason, more "fun" for me to ski.
I have skied the b5 a lot so far this season (I'd guestimate about 10 days), and it's really a ton of fun. The harder I push it, the better it responds!

Tried some B1's at the snowdome and loved 'em, so bought a pair of 170's. Can't wait to take them to Trois Vallees at Easter!

Skied my b5s in Copper's trees (and other places) today, some of the time in a few inches of very light Colorado fluff. These are a great all-around ski!
