Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Found - a source of functional kids ski socks at a reasonable price

As some of you may be aware this is one of my 'holy grail' style searches. However, I think I have finally found a decent source of kids socks at a realistic price.

As you may know I have been trying to improve on ski 'tube' style socks and obtain 'functionally styled' more 'grown up' looking ski socks at a 'realistic' price.

I tried a couple of packs of these in each of two sizes in the summer and the kids have been wearing them to their snow dome trips to try them. Being pleased with them I have just ordered a larger purchase so that the kids have sufficient for a whole holiday without me worrying about washing them. The company ships nice and quickly - packages arrive within days of the order (weather allowing!!) and the product appears consistent.

I thought that I would do the company a favour and recommend the product - you will know this is not something I'm often inclined to do. If others continue to order the product then perhaps they will continue the supply so that when this set get outgrown in a few years I can still get some more Toofy Grin

The company is on ebay and the product list can be found at:

They also do adult socks, but I haven't tried those (I have the Lidl ones which are also excellent for the cash).

I hope this information is useful to the parents out there that despair of keeping their growing skiers in decent socks without breaking the bank.

Megamum, have you tried TK Maxx for socks? I know their adult socks are very cheap (the last lot I bought were about £6 or £7 for 3 x pairs). Not sure if they do kids socks, but might also be worth a look if you have a branch near you.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Megamum, abj, I popped into our local TK Maxx today and picked up some very good 'proper' shaped ski socks for my boys. One pair cost £1.00 and the other £2.00 (clearance prices, but they were pretty reasonable when full price too)

abj, Anniepen, Unfortunatley since they closed the branch in Basildon town centre (which was dead easy to visit on a normal shopping trip) TKMAXX is a special trip to the out of town store in Chelmsford - a 25 mile round trip rolling eyes which I do about once a year 'cos my mother moans that I spend too much cash on ski gear I don't really need when I go in there!!

Megamum, new ski gear is always a temptation!

Although the thought of fighting through rows and rows of unsorted clothes and angry shoppers normally sobers me up Very Happy

Aldi and Lidl do bargain ski socks for all sizes of people. Me and the rugrats like em much better than the brand name ones (can't remember the brand but they were marked down from about a tenner a pair to £1.99) from TK Maxx

abj, I must confess to being an ace bargain hunter and well able to hold my own in the elbow contest. Nothing I like better than finding the best bargain off the rail.

I think my best success so for in TKMAXX was one early summer with the last rail of final knock downs - found a fab pale blue Tog 24 ski jacket that was so cheap it was worth getting for my daughter to grow into (its about age 12), and the price?.................a whopping £8!!

I tend to think about what I might need and then hold out for the right bargain. I'll rarely be pushed into a rash purchase, but if I find an item I've already decided I need or like the blue jacket see something unmissable that I know will be used then I will buy. That way we all get half decent gear and can still afford the ski holidays to use it.

Thats the approach I take as well Megamum, and the kids are great at tracking down the bargains in the TKM jumble sale as well, spotted me a shirt I'd spotted in one of the fancy shops just round the corner for £85 in TKM for a rather less breathtaking £8 at the weekend. Plus on finding some Surfantic ski trousers she rather liked in 2 Seasons for about £80 the other week eldest daughter dragged us straight round to TK and got the exactly the same for £30
