Unstoppable early in the season, despite his form in the speed events at the World Championships, Bode Miller knows this weekend could decide the destination of the crystal globe for the overall title. Less that 200 points adrift, Benni Raich is favourite for this weekend's technical events in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia) - the GS on Saturday is followed by Sunday's slalom - an event which Bode Miller has finished on just one occasion all season. Even in the GS Miller seems to be struggling. Miller has not won a giant slalom since Val d'Isere in mid-December and failed to finish the world championship GS.
The fight for the women's title is even closer. San Sicario sees three events over the weekend, starting this morning at 10 am with the Super G (live on Eurosport). Although allrounders Anja Paerson and Janica Kostelic, separated by just 8 points, have a good lead in the overall rankings over the likes of Goetschl and Michaela Dorfmeister, the Austrians are still top of the Super G and downhill points tables, Goetschl in particular having achieved the fastest time in downhill training this week. With 300 points at stake for the winners of the three races (Super G today, downhill tomorrow and combined Sunday), they could cut back on the deficit if the Swedish and Croatian stars fail to perform.

Thirteen more points in the bag from the two races in Garmisch, not one of his favourite courses, leaves Mickel heading to Kvitfjell in Norway in two weeks for the final regular World Cup Downhill of the season. Mickel must score more than twenty points (13th place) to have a chance of making the cut in twenty fifth spot for a ticket to Lenzerheide. “It is an achievable goal!” Mickel confidently says and believes! With two weeks of training to prepare for the final onslaught, Mickel will be totally focused on making the dream happen.

Dislocated shoulder - still might recover in time to compete in Kvitfjell. But only 25 (plus the World Junior Champ in the discipline as of Feb 23rd, 18 year old Slovenian Rok Perko) qualify and Finlay still lies 28th...
And injuries don't count, in that injured skiers aren't replaced if they can't take part. For example Deneriaz and Cuche are out for the season... The only way Finlay can get through is on merit by scoring 20 WC points or more in the final race, ie by finishing at worst 13th, and hoping that Aamodt (breathing down his neck just 4 pts further back) doesn't pull off the kind of result he's quite capable of.
