Poster: A snowHead

When the US and Canadian ski teams race at the 2010 Winter Olympics, they will be wearing new low-friction, 'slippery' suits designed by Spyder Active Sports. But the high-tech suits, made of a new slippery fabric, are top secret and will not be seen until the athletes come out to race in Vancouver. To create the suits, the developers looked at how friction affects aerodynamics, then created a surface texture that reduces wind friction.

primoz, I don't doubt your version but Spyder seem to be the kings at maximising the marketing opportunities around these things at least in the English speaking world. This is only the ski version of the swim suits after all, unfortunately there's no real point in skiing unless the tech is kept exclusive to a few skiers as there are no world records to be shattered.

It's to be hoped they don't get jumped on like the swimmers who used the special fabrics. Didn't the swimmers get banned from using it in the finish?

FIS has rules well set. FINA on the other hand, didn't have any rules. So if suits fit FIS rules, they are allowed, if they don't, they are not. And FIS rules are pretty clear, so there's no fear, at least in my opinion, to have fiasco like FINA had.

seems like there (unfortunately) wont be any canadian skiers left to wear them at their injury rate this season; and the americans will just ski out a bitearlier down the track than they have been doing recently
