Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

If you were going to spend £200 on a ski jacket... what jacket would you get?

I am going to purchase my new jacket in the next day or so, and i think i know what i'm after, but i'm open to other opinions as to what would make a good jacket for that price bracket.

I want goretex, not too fussed about lots of pockets as i carry a bag most times i ski, and i need long sleeves - so another North Face jacket is out.

What would you get, and why?

EB have a mid season sale at the mo, might be worth a look (online, don't know if theres one near you), Burton AK range have long sleeves and great fit...but you'd need to try on as the large to XL sizing is a bit crazy..

not sure i'm too keen on the red. my hunt will continue though. I'm still to find anyone stocking any jackets from the Marmot snowsports line in the UK.

I just tried on a Haglofs jacket as well, but found the arms too short. Liked the features though.

check out the reviews. I tried on the alpinist jacket and it was longer than most other jackets that I tried.

o11y, do you see that as a good or bad thing?

I notice, after your comment, that the sleeves on the alpinist are above the bottom hem as opposed to the bottom jacket. I take it this is the extra body length.

Closest place to me that stock the jacket is 40 miles away in Glasgow, so maybe i'll take a trip through at the weekend.

i liked the jacket and it is great quality. But i would say it is more geared for the longer body as the hem does go quite low. The reason I didnt buy it was the collar. It was fantastic in the way that it covered my nose when done up, but when you are spring skiing I could imagine it blocking your view when you un-zip it slightly.

Think I'd go to TK Maxx, find a £200 jacket reduced to £40 and buy it (thats what I did to get my Rossignol Tribe jacket!)

Sound advice that.

I got my current Schoffel jacket for 1/2 price from Ellis Brigham.

Absolute bargain.

(This policy also works for skis and trousers, if you aren't a fashion follower and are prepared to take what is left over obviously)

For £200 I'd look at a mountain equipment gore-tex pro shell

Or for £160 there's the Keela Munro jacket, which has had some very good write ups on here, from admin in particular. I'm thinking of getting one myself.

sloop, erm, that's not exactly a fashion item, though, is it? I know I'm scarcely one to talk about high fashion, given that I ski in a fartbag ( Shocked) but that does look a tad geeky.

With regards to the marmot jackets, how are they in terms of quality? Looking for an alternative to North Face and they do a gew 3 layer goretex shells which can be picked up reasonably cheap at the moment! I picked up a marmot rain jacket for the Mrs from TK maxx a while back and it's pretty nice but hasn't been tested like it should!

Hurtle, well, no, its not exactly high fashion - though maybe £200 cheaper as a result of that. You can get it all in black and thereby avoid the red/black or yellow/black contrast Very Happy
