Don't overdo it though as IIRC being petroleum based it can accelerate perishing. I would check but I'm not brave enough to put vaseline and rubber together into google

Vaseline does indeed damage rubber, which is why you can get alternative special lubricants for naughty purposes. Maybe you should try KY jelly on the door seals.

As said, vaseline will degrade the rubber seals. Even Halfords sell silicone spray for this very purpose. (I did all mine before godriving to St Anton a couple of weeks ago.)

The instructions that came with my sunroof suggested applying glycerine to the rubber seal twice a year - presumably to keep it pliable - but I guess that would work too.

Local motor factors/car spares shop should be able to sell you some silicone spray. Syray the seals with that will prevent them freezing.

Definitely not Vaseline/petroleum jelly. Definitely easily available silicone spray.

Beware of anything containing silicone if you plan to ever respray / retouch your wagon. The stuff is virtually impossible to get rid of. Mechanics in greasy overalls will never be allowed near a proper spray booth for this reason.

And I can now confirm it doesn't work - my rear passenger door was frozen solid last night 
|

Glycerin was what I was told to use... have only used it on locks to stop them icing up

RobinS, ... there are Silicone sprays ... and ... there are Silicone sprays
... make sure you use a good quality one ... never failed me even with temps heading to -30
|

I use some thing called ACF 50, cover the motorcycle in it in winter helps stop corrosion, i put it on my door seals seems to do the job.
they use it on aircrafts

critch, That stuff is amazing. Use it on the triple. Developed for helicopters on aircraft carriers whose engines are exposed to salt spray.. also safe for plastics etc.
