Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Its a local club, run by volunteers and there is no ski hire. I'm not sure if theirs any instructors. Although its a great day out, I think the drive up and the walk in may scare a beginner off for life !!

Not for a total beginner. You have to walk in a heck of a way or pole along, then you haveto ride up a fairly long drag to get started. There's a second drag at the top. The hut and sun terrace are half way up.
If there's an easy way in and you have snowshoes, then I suppose you could carry gear to the hut which does have some mild terrain directly outside. You'd have to take your own instuctor.
Allenheads is a lot easier to get in to, the hut is at the bottom and they do have some kit to lend, it's kind of old school, but it works. So long as you can stop (let's call it what it is, fall over), you can play around there until you master the rope tow and turn. (Hint, bend your knees).
When you can do decent turns and ride the left then consider Weardale and Yad Moss.
