Poster: A snowHead

Just thought I'd share this with everyone.
If you go to Holiday Autos and book from the Swiss side of Geneva ("Book and collect between 19 December 2009 - 31 January 2010...") they will give you the winter pack (winter tyres and chains) for FREE.
Not only that, but the hire price is cheaper on the Swiss side than the French side!
I just cancelled my existing booking on the French side (cost me £15) so I could get the chains and tyres for free on the Swiss side.

As far as I know you always get winter tyres and snow chains whenever you rent a car anywhere in Switzerland during the winter months. swiss Law.
You don't pay extra, you get them whether you want/ask for them or not.

Not according to the Holiday Autos site. It does say on their site that you have to purchase the Winter Pack, or you will be charged locally for it.

Not in my experience with HA and Sixt last season. Indeed you do always get the tyres whether you want them or not (law) but you do pay extra for them, if you haven't pre-paid then you pay locally. Chains are extra again with Sixt. It differs from supplier to supplier.
m00958 this seems like a good deal then from HA.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Maybe we haqve been lucky then???
I hire a lot of cars in Switz...minimum 6 times per winter for many years, always through HolidayAutos (using SnowHeads special link for last few years).
I've always had winter tyres and chains. I've never paid extra for them.

I think that the winter charges have recently been reintroduced. We were certainly charged them on our first trip thro GVA in 2004 , but have never paid for them since, amd there was no mention on the website of the charges. It will be interesting to see what happens over the course of the winter.
