Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Info on Kitzbuhel

I've had a quick search through these threads but couldn't find one relating to Kitzbuhel.

Would skiing here be good for intermediates?

TIA

Yes.

t40ora, there's masses. Do a search in the "forum search" area (see above).

t40ora, Yes, predominantly an intermediate area. Some steep stuff but not enough to suit experts so mainly populated by intermediates.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

t40ora, perfect for intermediates. It's a large ski area and there were really only two runs which I didn't enjoy (I'd describe myself as an average intermediate). I went in March 2008 and unfortunately there was no snow at resort level (which is common as Kitz is very low) but from the top of the Hahnenkamm bubble lift upwards the snow was great and I really enjoyed the terrain. Add to that the pretty bustling town, great nightlife plus good value for money accommodation and you've got a damn fine resort in my opinion.

queen bodecia, So would going early January (2nd) be generally risky in terms of lack of snow?

pam w, Thanks - what a Numpty, I've been on this site a year and didn't spot the search facility.

t40ora, that's an impossible question to answer. Kitzbuhel town itself is quite low (700m) but the ski area goes right up to 2000m. Where the western Alps rely on high altitudes, that's not such an issue in the eastern Alps where the temperatures are generally lower. But answering the question "will there be snow?" is something no one can reliably do.

If the temperatures are low enough, the resort is well fixed for snowmaking and they even managed to keep one run open down to resort level when I was there (temperatures in resort were between 3 and 10 degrees!). It was quite odd skiing down a narrow white strip with green fields either side! But like I said, the snow higher up was fantastic and every time it rained in resort (almost every night), that meant fresh snow up on the mountains.

Keep the faith buddy. It's the best any of us can do.
