Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Damn - flights cancelled for my family

So after choosing carefully a Sat 19Dec - Sat 2 Jan flight from Bucharest to Grenoble for my parents and son, the airline cancels it...(and nicely offers to replace it with a flight to...Paris).

Now they have to use an alternative flight which gets there one day earlier and leaves two days later. So they need to find accommodation for these extra nights.

Or alternatively, we all forgo the deposits paid for Alpe d'Huez and try to find a different resort, different flights (eg Verona for the Dolomites) etc.

Great...

(Don't say "travel insurance". As far as I know, there isn't an annual travel policy available in Romania with similar benefits as UK policies).

horizon, there's a direct train from Paris to Grenoble, might be cheaper and more convenient than staying the extra nights.

The airline is Wizzair. I flew with them a few times but after I once waited in Luton 5 hours for a delayed flight and now this cancellation, that's it, no more.

Lizzard, thanks for that. not sure that the train would work out cheaper ( I just priced a return for all of them at 402 Euros)...and anyway there would be an extra transfer from Paris-Beauvais to the TGV station.

Have you looked at getting flights to/from Lyon instead of grenoble? It's a damn sight closer than Paris & a bigger airport than grenoble also has it's own train station. So it should be possible to get a train to grenoble without too much fuss.
