Not sure if this is the right area to post.
It is my intention from next year to live in resort, and may be involved with a woman who has a 13 year old boy.
So how feasible is it to bring up a youth in resort with particular attention to his education
Would a "local" school work?
Would it have to be private tuition?
Are there expat schools?
What do kids do on the race circiut for education?
Or if anyone could point me in the right direction
Many thanks

It is the 21st Century, even Europeans send their kids to schools these days.......

It works for the locals. Whether or not it would work for your boy would depend on how quickly he got to grips with the language.

He'd probably need specialist tuition in the local language unless he's approaching fluent already.

There are fee-paying international schools in cities like Grenoble or Geneva.

So you're not sure? I'd try asking her as a first step.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I know that in the Italian resort where we have friends living, the kids who are in the race programme don't go to school for a large chunk of the winter season, but have to make up the time in the summer months.

Rocksteadee, are you not sure whether you are involved or not? I imagine most 13 year olds (unless keen skiers, and good enough to go into race training) would absolutely loathe being whisked away from all their mates and dumped in a French speaking school.

Thanks for the replies.
I have only just started seeing this woman and neither of us would want to get involved to only part winter season next year
But strangely enough it is her son who came up with the idea of being taught in a school abroad.
He asked his mum, if I went would she go with me, because he could then ski every day after school and weekends
He is not a racer but is a keen skier
This is all pie in the sky at the moment, but if we were to carry on seeing each other, I would prefer to have an idea about this earlier rather than later

Rocksteadee, There might not be enough time to ski after school, kids in some resorts need to get a bus down to the secondary school in the valley.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Yup
And I do not want to be in a position to have to be torn between either not going or not parting.
She knows this and just knowing that there could be a solution may make it workable

My nextdoor neighbour in Les Arcs put his daughter in the local junior school for a couple of years (from the beginning of January to Easter only). The local school welcomed children of seasonnaire workers or residents, and they had a couple of Brits, a dutch kid and I think an Aussie. Worked extremely well for my mate's daughter, but she was young enough to pick up French very quickly and settled in with her new friends very easily. Might be harder for a secondary age kid to do that. First step would be to speak to the local school and see what their response is.

The boy already has some French and his Mother is fluent. So in a years time the language may not be an issue.
But as i am an instructor I am not yet qualified to teach in France

Thought of that but there are not many French speaking and then they are dual
Verbier, Saas fee
Don't know of any others.....yet......need more research
Having said that it would be easiest to learn French for my second language as already have schoolboy French
