Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

rob@rar, It's slightly misleading to suggest the resort is for sale and/or that Companie des Alpes actually owns Chamonix! rolling eyes rolling eyes Only the lift company is for sale, but this is old news - it's been for sale for a while but no suitable offers have been forthcoming.

From the village point of view it's quite worrying - it would be just dreadful for it to be sold to one of those big multi-nationals with lots of other resort interests - they wouldn't care about keeping our character would they? Replacement of the Diable - huh - need to persuade a few peeps of a few things first ... Venosc lift was replaced not long ago.

easiski, CDA haven't spoilt Serre Chevalier (yet). Things have improved, as they've spent money on lifts. Could do with some spending on the Monetier lift system, but it keeps the crowds away, so I'm not too worried.

DAL is selling a majority of the shares in the company, and this has been the case since before the winter. Currently several potential investors have been for a poke around. These include Compagnie de Alpes; Loisirs Solutions; Remy Loisirs Labellemontagne, which runs resorts in the Vanoise and the Vosges (though they don't seem all that interested); and some investment funds. But not SATA, contrary to rumour.

Most likely candidate seems to me to be Compagnie des Alpes, though this isn't popular with DAL staff, who reckon that the first thing to go will be various primes (mileage/accommodation allowance, language bonus, profit share etc) and that working for them will be more corporate and less personal.

There is a whole lot of stuff on this in the Dauphiné this week, but it's not on their website so you will have to make do with rehashed versions on Anglophone ski sites.

Helen Beaumont, DAL have spent lots on lifts and improvements to the pistes etc. TBH - I don't think major investment is required in that respect. The lifts/pistes that haven't been replaced are being blocked by local landowners and that wouldn't change with a new company would it? I just don't like the idea of a big corporation taking over, because they inevitably see things as bottom line and corporate whatsit rather than any sort of personal relationships - human resources rather than personnel. Sad

Slightly at a tangent to the main OP, I've just had a meeting with DAL about liftpass sales for next winter as they're changing their working practices. Quite productive though, and the new 'chef' was impressed with Snowheads. Very Happy Very Happy
