Hello!
I am Kathryn from the Irish Association of Snowsports Instructors (IASI). For those of you who don't know us we are the only Irish providers of snowsports qualifications. Our varying levels start at dry-slope/snowdome level and progress to fully international qualifications.
We are running our basic Level 1 courses this September / October in Ireland. Visit our website at http://www.iasisnowsports.ie/index.p...d=13&Itemid=29 for more details on starting off.
Associate membership is required to book on the course, all this is available at our website http://www.iasisnowsports.ie/index.p...d=52&Itemid=71
If I can answer any questions post them here!
Yours in the fluffy stuff,
Kathryn

How does this compare/stand up against BASI?
What are you able to do with an IASI qualification and where are the qualifications recognised?
Surely, you'd be as well doing BASI? if you're happy to travel.

Philbo, isn't it almost identical to BASI? Certainly from the website the levels look the same.

Morning everyone!
Thanks for the welcomes and the comments. Sorry the links didn't work, the gremlins on my Mac were out yesterday.
Regarding levels, our awards are similar to the BASI & other international ones:
Level 1 - Ski Instructor artificial surfaces/snow-domes
Level 2 - Ski Instructor - basic snow qualification recognised in the likes of NZ, Canada, etc.
Level 3 - Ski Teacher (ISIA) - ISIA is the International Ski Instructors Association http://www.isiaski.org/
Level 4 - National Ski Teacher - the highest award for international level
Phil, drop me a line on the email if I can fill you in further, I had assumed you'd have know the IASI system from the years coaching the SCI kids. You are at no disadvantage doing IASI qualifications as opposed to BASI ones, we're just targeting the Irish market.

The board of IASI are delighted to announce that, with BASS Chamonix, they have entered into the first “Licensed Course Provider” contract for season 09/10. This is a new and exciting development for IASI. This will help us endeavor to grow both the organisation and our profile in Europe.
As a Licensed Course Provider, BASS Chamonix (operated by Derek & Shona Tate) will run two IASI certified courses on snow independently to the IASI course calendar. These courses, a Level 1 & Level 2, will take place in April 2010. The courses are primarily aimed at members living in the Alps and wish to gain recognised instructor qualifications. All details of the courses will be released by BASS Chamonix next week. http://www.basschamonix.com/
IASI continue to investigate Licensed Course Provider opportunities to provide additional training and certification options for our skiing and snowboarding members.
