Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

if VT closes due to high winds or bad weather, catch the bus down to Les Menuires, everyone in VT will tell you there is no skiing to be had, but there often is in Les Menuires!! There is a public bus from the main bus station. High resorts can often close due weather, and its worth a try. We have been caught out, with ski school telling us that the whole area had been closed, when it was not!! We have been many times over Xmas, and had a great time. Enjoy.

Mountain Restaurants
While the Knife and Fork is a great, central location to meet on the slopes, the service is dire and the food variable.

The restaurant at the top of the Deux Lacs lift is always busy for all the right reasons. If the slopes are busy, get there bang on 12 if you want to get a table without waiting.

The Carabou, further up the hill from the Knife and Fork isn't cheap but is very good. They are also snowHeads friendly, keep an eye out for the snowHeads stickers their little boy has plastered around the place Toofy Grin
If you're served by the 'boss' Celine, mention you're a snowHead and the least you'll get is a smile, never know, u might even get a discount Wink

Ski Schools
I cannot describe the ESF in Val Thorens fairly and not fall foul of our swear filter - avoid! (IMO)

There is also 'Ski Cool' which presents as an independent but is actually ESF too.

The truly independent school in town is ProSneige - it's fair to say, we're biased towards them, but again IMO, for all the right reasons Little Angel

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

anarchicsaltire, La Masse area down at Les Menuires is often quiet and sheltered when the weather is catching some other areas. I'm not sure if the Orelles link will be open that early but its lovely quiet skiing over there as well. For a thigh burn challenge see how far you can get without stopping from the top of the Thorens glacier to Les Menuires - its something like 10km without a lift!
I've just booked for New Year - never been that early before so looking forward to it.
Theres lots of useful info on Valthonet
