Just back from a fabulous week in Les Deux Alpes. We don't know where we will be going next year (one of us is expert and the other is early intermediate). We might be taking a friend along next year who has no desire whatsoever to ski, but obviously would like other things to do. Does anyone know of any resorts that would be suitable for the 3 of us.
Thanks.

we are off skiing in lapland (levi) in a fortnight. Its supposed to be excellent for non skiers and skiers alike. Will report back (they have museums, winter wonderland walks, spa facilities, husky and reindeer safari, santa trips, the northern lights etc etc).
Mind u, it may not be so good for the expert skier (its a mainly intermediate and beginner resort apparently).

Would suggest the Wengen / Grindelwald area of Jungfrau. We had a long weekend there a couple of weeks ago, with 2 non-skiers in the party. At least they can get round the mountain there for a bit of sight seeing on the trains, and there was plenty going on in both villages, with plenty of shops to nosey in.

I'd second Wengen/Grindlewald. Plenty to keep them occupied and the railway into the Eiger up to Jungfrauyoch (sp?) is not to be missed. Equally some of the US resorts can be great for non-skiers: Aspen and Tahoe for example - although they can both work out expensive!!

I was thinking of maybe the 3 valleys or La Plagne/Les Arcs or maybe even Livigno.

La Plagne might suit the non-skier. There's an ice rink, a swimming pool (both in Plagne Bellecote), the bob sleigh run on the way up to the resort, and escorted skidoo expeditions late afternoon. Not much by way of shopping if that's important. It would also be great for the early intermediate but might not have enough challenging stuff for the expert.

jb, we are planning a similar exercise for next Christmas with the grandparents. Have more or less decided on Courcheval, so I did a recce while there last week. In fact, there was a non-skier in our chalet who had a lovely time. Various bubbles up the mountain, several walks through the woods linking 1550, 1650 and 1850 and probably the other stations as well. Nice shops in 1850, cafes and restaurants. On a budget 1550 is cheaper than 1850, but access is easy with a bubble direct to the main croisette lift area where the action is until 7.30 p.m., there are also buses. Still investigating swimming facilities, but believe a couple of the hotels allow non-residents to use theirs.

jb1970, if you like late nights and binge drinking I would recommend Pas De La Casa. Of course thats not the reason I am going again this year....

LOL @ Frosty
La Plagne is probably not a bad call. We've had non skiers with us most times we've been there and they've been happy enough. They can get round there with the free buses and bubble upto Belle Plagne as well. As Kuwait Ian says tho, apart from the usual ski shops and supermarkets there ain't much in the way of shopping

Chamonix is quite a lively town and also has a railway for those that want to travela bit.

I recommended Cortina to a friend as it's more of a "real" town. His situation is he's a skier, his son's 5 yrs old and wants to learn and his wife's a non-skier and doesn't want to get bored.
We've been to Cortina and the skiiing's good for a week, should be OK starter slopes for youngster and there seemed to be plenty else to do for his wife. Any thoughts anyone?

You could try Zermatt. Is a beautiful village and there is good walking even in winter. The Gornergratbahn runs up to the top of Gornergrat at c.3000m. It's a proper little train. Can also get a non-skier up to the ice caves on the glacier by bubble. Quite spectacular. Also got great restaurants, shopping etc. Just don't let them spend your money......
kuwait_ian, La Plagne is good but be selective which village you stay in. We stayed in Plagne Soleil and found it a bit cut off. Mind you the skiing last New Year was not great so we were all probably a little on the grumpy side!!!

You know it makes sense.

If you can handle the flight then Banff has to be one of the best choices.
Its actualy a town serving both summer and winter visitors with an infrasructure capable of catering for the non-skier with plenty of non-ski related trips and activities together with a considerable number of shops, restuarants etc.
The scenery is pretty good (probably a slight understatement) and you get to see the local wildlife even in the town.
Its one of the few ski resorts I would consider taking my non-skiing missus.

jb1970, only Saas Fee comes anywhere close. Austria has loads of options anwhere near Salzburg or Innsbruck would be good and Switzerland has a few more, Zermatt and Wengen etc being the most obvious.

Wengen is not so good for the expert skier as Zermatt might be and it has little night life but for intermediate / beginer skiers and non skiers who don't require extensive nightlife but do love great scenery Wengen is perfect
