I don't know about the nights closing in but it's blooming dark and chucking down rain here at 11 in the morning. If the temperature had been 20° less it might have been a great snowfall. I only hope they haven't used up all the precipitation before the winter comes!

We were camping/mountainbiking/hiking at Torridon (400 miles north of home on Teesside) 2 weeks ago and the amount of extra daylight was amazing - glorious sunset photos after 11pm; and still light enough to get in the tent without needing a torch at midnight. On clear nights, the northern sky never really got dark - just a very dark blue - and it was light again at about 3am.
Even Fort William, 100 miles to the south, felt dark in comparison. Coming back down here it feels like winter's really on its way!!

Yeah, especially when we have the beautiful Pennine wildernesses of Weardale and Teesdale to ski on - they got 30 or 40 days skiing there last winter. Bit like Lincolnshire I suppose.....

damn credit crunch has me out of a job by aug or i would have booked for december already
