Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Hi, this is going to seem like a weird question and from someone who's barely even looked at a set of skis let alone got in them, I hope you'll be patient with me Smile

So for reasons I can't really explain without boring everyone senseless and/or breaking NDAs, can anyone let me know what typically the lead-in to the get go of a skicross/skierx race is typically? Sorry that was probably explained rather poorly - so I'll reference a couple of YouTube vids if I may.

On this vid:
http://youtube.com/v/T_agNdarymc the announcer shouts "course is clear, racers ready ... 10 seconds ... 5 seconds" then the gate drops and the race begins (note - the audio in this video appears to be horrifically out of sync)

However on this one:
http://youtube.com/v/QZpk4x8F1uU&feature=related if you skip to 2:30 the announcer seems to shout "get ready ... attention ... go!"

Anyway, apologies for my likely innacurate use of terminology, but if anyone knows what's what and how such races are typically 'led in' (for want of a better term) it would be most appreciated!

Generally the commands go as follows; Enter the start gate, skiers ready, attention and then the starter can drop the board anytime within 5 seconds of the attention call.
