Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Canadian safety authority bids to improve ski helmet qualities

The Canadian Standards Association has produced a new specification which manufacturers can meet to improve the safety of ski helmets.

This report from Canadian Press.

Quote:
... if manufacturers act promptly, association-approved helmets could be on the slopes in time for next winter.

The association has developed a new standard for helmets and is now ready to provide testing for certification of the protective headgear.

The initiative and momentum have partly come about due to the death of actress Natasha Richardson during a ski lesson at Mont Tremblant in March.

That the CSA has been pushing its standard is neither new nor surprising. This statement is intriguing though:

Quote:
But CSA-approved helmets can offer basic protection from concussions and serious brain injuries.

Quite a claim, particulalrly the serious brain injuries bit - and I notice it is not attributed to the CSA.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

It's borderline. That point is adjacent to quotes from their spokesman, so the claim may be theirs.
I assume they're advocating a larger helmet shell with more interior shock-absorption.

David Goldsmith, you mean like a motorcycle helmet?

I don't know. I doubt it. Who'd want to ski around looking like a moped-rider? But I'll get our Canadian desk onto this.*

This is what the CSA said on 24 March about ski helmets:
