What do the +/- things mean again on the clips of ski boots? The guy at Ellis Brigham told me, but I forget!

By clips, do you mean buckles? I'm guessing they mean out/in or looser/tighter for micro adjustment.

They're the Micro adjustment markings. Release the clip and rotate it to either loosen or tighten the fit. It gives you pretty much infinite adjustment for tension between the slots on the shell part of the buckle, as the buckle can be shortened or lengthened.

jb1970, if you can't tell just be twiddling the buckles, put them on, twiddle the buckle to in one direction, noting whether its + or -, do them up, note how tight they are, undo them, twiddle them in the other direction, do them up again, see if they're tighter or looser, remember which direction is which. Bob's your uncle.

The buckle has a threaded bar inside, normally clockwise to tighten, but you'll see the buckle length shorten or lengthen as you rotate the buckle.

I think richmond is making this more complicated than necessary. All you need to do is look at which foot the clip is on (left boot or right boot) and whether the + is to the front (toe) or back (heel) of the boot. Then it's simply a case of remembering that a + on the front (or toe) of the left boot will have the effect of increasing the pressure by shortening (reducing) the screw-flange distance of the clip, and the opposite on the other boot but only on the same clip (of course). By a process of inverse Boolean logic you can easily deduce that a turn (or twist) of the clip by the correct number of turns counter-balanced by the same number on the other boot will have the desired effect. Or if the + is to the rear (heel) simply invert these rules.
Couldn't be more obvious really.
