A few weeks ago #2 son's ski boots decided to disintegrate on us: well, the toe plate just exploded and ceased to be. We were in resort, but couldn't find any replacement (too old, too small) and ended up having to buy him new boots.
The boots we went with were from Roces http://www.roces-snow.com/. These have a unique(!?) system whereby the size of the boot is adjustable: so instead of only lasting 1 year or so, the boot should last at least 3. The adjustment mechanism seems pretty solid so far, and does not alter the sole length, so no need to get bindings reset when you child's foot grows overnight!
They do three sizes: 16-18.5, 19-22, and 22.5-25 - so from toddler up to about early teens or even older.
Worth a look if you are the market for some kids boots.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Roces are big in Inline Skates where adjustable kids skates are the norm. I guess they got the idea from there although they are a lot more complex than for skates. Could save a lot of money for kids boots, just at the time I think my daughter's feet have more or less stopped growing.

Noticed a couple of wee kids wearing these at on the train up to slopes at Cairngorm yesterday. Asked their parents about the boots and how exactly the boots adjusted. Seemingly, the actual boot size (heel plate to toe plate) remains constant i.e. at the max size of boot, but the heel mechanism moves forward and back for sizing.
Seems like a neat system, but I'm thinking there may be issues as a boot has to fit into bindings at the maximum boot size e.g. a child has the 19.0-22.0 boot, has 19.0 size feet and the boot is fitted into the binding at size 22.0? Would there be issues with the binding setting i.e. safety issues, and also how the boot/binding setup performs with the ski?
I know it might not make much different with small children(?), but I was thinking about getting the biggest size - 22.5 to 25.5, for my son (aged 10), but I'm concerned that there may be performance and safety issues?
Also, the £95 cost is more that standard recreation kids boots ,which might not be justified. I could probably buy 2 pairs of new boots for £95 (via the "sales) over 2-3 seasons which the Roeces might last for?
Also interesting that when I do a web search (in the UK) that I can't find any ski shops selling them, only skate shops? Do ski shops have issues with them, apart from the fact that they might not want you to "save" money

Does the fact that they adjust affect any water proof that they might otherwise have?
