When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

France picks Annecy as candidate for 2018 Winter Olympics

France's Olympic committee yesterday chose Annecy as its candidate for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Other cities that have announced bids or interest in 2018 are Pyeongchang, South Korea; Munich, Germany; and Almaty, Kazahkstan. The International Olympic Committee will pick the 2018 host city in 2011.
...Annecy had a well-developed proposal that includes skiing in three major ski areas nearby, including the slopes of Mont Blanc, which hosted the world's first Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924.

Good luck to 'em, Just got back from Grand Massif and the marketing blitz was in full swing. Hope that they're planning on investing in the lift infrastructure, some of them are a bit on the 'Agricultural' side...

Grenoble also seemed to be bidding for it as I saw posters everywhere in the airport and Les Deux Alpes last week.

My 5 year old is extremely proud of the 'Annecy 2018 baseball cap he was given in Samoens while we were there - even slept in it for a few nights. He is adamant he is going to be competing at the games wherever they may be. He'll be 14 by then so maybe a bit too young Laughing
