Anyone stayed here? Looking at next years family trip and although the hotel itself looks awee bit on the basic side, looks like you are connected to the bigger and better Crystal Hotel and can use all teh facilities etc.

I know it used to be the Deutschmann and is supposed to be all new and graded 3 star as opposed to 4 star for the main building. I'll be there on 21st so I could let you know but I'm guessing thats the square deal your thinking of.

ollski, Yeah. Normally go independent but wanted to consider package holiday for next year and it was coming out at a pretty decent deal with Inghams for next year

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I've stayed in the main Crystal and it's excellent. Sorry can't speak for the sportiv hotel but if it's next door then the location is brilliant - 100 yards tops to the less busy of the two main gondolas, more convenient for the link to Hochgurgl as well.
One major warning re Obergurgl though: be very careful of drinking water at the mountain restaurants. Both OH and I got giardia while there (I'm as sure as I can be that this wasn't the Crystal's fault!). You really don't want to get giardia. It's because the resort is so high and cut off that some places keep water in tanks rather than off mains.

Cheers Barry Manilow, . Usually stick to beer, gluwein and heisse witwe's for that very reason

boabski, that's an excellent policy and I can't now imagine why I deviated from it. A schoolboy error. Perhaps in future in the unlikely event of requiring a non-alcoholic drink I shall just eat snow (though avoiding the yellow snow obviously).

Can I just ask what you used to buy your lift passes, pre book here or buy at resort? or anything cheaper??. Also wondering how they tend to treat credit cards as I know Austria is not very keen on them in general.

ollski, I always buy in Obergurgl. No problem with credit cards there at all. I'm not sure if prebooking at the moment will pay, means gambling on the euro not weakening...

stayed there as the Deutscmann a few years ago, mine and my friends rooms looked straight out of a 70's porn movie, Other rooms looked up to date.
The food was ok, the gondola is next door, skking direct back to the hotel is either direct or a long long schuss (and a walk if your to slow). Its a 10 minute walk into the "village" center. The original Crystal Hotel oppososite looks like the side of a ship.
As for skiing in Obergurgl we found it limited, but skking through the trees at the "top" of the village was fun
