Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi All,
Is anyone here is going to Val Thorens on April 11 via the Eurostar ski train? I'm going with one other person and was wondering if anyone was interesting in sharing a taxi from moutiers?
It's a long shot, but thought I'd give it a go!
Thanks for reading,
Ben

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

thewarn, Welcome to snowHeads. There is a bus service that is almost as good. A very non British affair as the bus station is attached to the railway station and tickets are sold in the combined main hall area.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks Frosty. Looking at the transavoie website it looks like there's a bus leaving at 7:45 and arriving at VT by 8:45. My dream of 8 full days boarding in a single holiday may yet be realised!
Supplementary question: has anyone got experience of using the left luggage facility at the sports hall? Was it ok?

i left mine at sports hall, Basically all it was was a big hall with everyone else leaving their luggage there. I could of at any point taken someone elses luggage and equally someone could of taken mine! However we left ours there all day with no problems. There must of been about 4-500 people doing the same!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Thanks Dave. I'm willing to take the risk. I'll just wear all my clothes when I'm on the piste. Steal my empty bags if you dare! Oh. You dare.

Hey thewarn. I'm in the same boat as you. Is the train the one that arrives at 5.30 in Moutier? There is no bus until 0745. I might want to share a taxi up with you - is that the train you're on? Are you still looking for someone to share with?

We'll be passing through Moutiers that morning although our final destination is not certain yet.
Cost-wise there's little difference between the scheduled bus and a full minibus cab with 8 people in. I'd guess a smaller cab might work out more per head.
We've often used the down time in Moutiers to grab coffee and croissants at the station bar.
Obviously though the cab leaves when you want it to and goes to where you want to go.
Conveniently however, the bus stop is right at the bottom of an escalator that takes you up to the sports hall.
There are changing/shower rooms which have smallish lockers in them so you have the option of putting valuables in there if you prefer. They don't look particularly sturdy but a step better than leaving them in an unattended bag.

I will be driving up to the area that morning with my son but we don't yet have a final destination but may be able to offer lifts, but it would be a bit of a squeeze for two people with luggage on top of our gear. It won't be too early though, probably looking at late morning.
