A member of Squaw Valley's Ski Patrol died yesterday after he was caught in an avalanche. The Squaw Valley Fire Department says 41-year-old Andrew Entin was working on avalanche controls at the ski resort, which includes the use of explosives to safely trigger avalanches, when he was caught in a slide and partially buried at about 8 o'clock in the morning....Avalanche warnings have been issued across the western slopes of Sierra.

A big shame a guy trying to help Nissan clear the way for the FWT Comp. Sad news indeed.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

At 07:48 on 3/3/09 Andrew James Entin (Eski) and his partner Jeremy Genstler were in the process of completing snow safety on Headwall Face, when the unstable snowpack slid, carring Eski with it, through a small tree area. The slide left a ten foot crown and buried the top of the Squaw One lift. Jeremy dug Eski out and he was transported out alive, but died of his injuries later that afternoon.
The conditions were so bad that the Careflight could not fly. Snow pack was unstable due to the large amount of wet snow that had accumulated - it had rained constantly at the base for 2 days.
We had the memorial service for Eski last night. Ski Patrollers from all over attended - Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Heavenly, Mammoth, and Whistler/Blackcomb. The local Police and Fire Departments honoured him as did the Careflight crew. Many other ski patrollers sent flowers and cards.
In memory of Eski the area where he was buried has now been roped off and will remain closed permanently - it will never be skied on again. Squaw Valley ski Patrol now all have number 2 buzzcuts as that is the haircut Eski favoured. We have started a petition to have one of the local unnamed peaks named after him.
Eski was know as one of the most dedicated, hardworking and professional members of the Squaw Patrol. We are devastated and will miss Eski greatly.
