Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Theft-Deterrent System for Skis - is this gonna work?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
When I was searching for applications for my Nokia mobile I stumbled across this 'prototype' for a system to stop someone running off with your skis:-

I'm not sure if they are deadly serious or it's a bit tongue in cheek

Rather than a siren going off I'd much prefer a few thousand volts going through the thieving git!!! wink Shocked

What do you think? Could something like this genuinely work?

I suppose the technology should be there. Have to wait till my two little imps are old enough to carry their own luggage before I can buy and take my own skis on hols.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I can't see anything to stop someone just picking up your skis and walking away with them.

The designers seem to forget that most folks can't just step into your bindings anyway - they are set to the size of your boots.

A far simpler method of achieving the same thing is just to have a mechanical 'key' on your boots that matches one on the bindings. But, as I said before, what's the point?

In St Anton & other Austrain resorts the skis stolen from the KK & Mosserwirt & Downtown Professional Gangs from Eastern Europe lift around 20 to 30 pairs (more snowboards nowadays) a time in However, it has not happened for the last couple of seasons.

Just batter the crap out of your top sheets. That way they don't look worth stealing. Or you could just split them up, that seems to work pretty well.

We need more of these, as they have everywhere in Whistler. I saw some in Stuben this year.
