Poster: A snowHead

Easy one I hope. Do I and the kids need passport photos for the skipass? The website does not clearly show.

From experience single day pass never needs a photo. Above 3-day passes seem to be the start of an attached photo. Many resorts have facilities to take photo on site as the resort owner also want your money. Flaine has many places to sell ski passes and it is therefore a lot easier if you carry some spare photos around, instead of walking some distance to take a shot.

If you buy your Grand Massif ski pass in Morillon you definitely don't ( or didn't last year ) need a photo so as all part of the same place I assume the same will apply in Flaine. They do a 'hands free' plastic credit card type thing for about 3 euros for the card which we found great, though did occasionally have to lift the kids up as the sensors were too high for them!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Annie, "definitely don't" isn't really the case, if you buy the pass in Morillon it really rather depends on the mood of the ticket office that day.

For a multiday pass in Flaine you must get a hands-free pass for 3 euros cost which you can get back next time you go but is otherwise unrefundable. No photo, just stick it in your left breast pocket and off you go. The best innovation in skiing for years, no more p***ing about with bits of string around your neck.
Just back from there and the snow is pretty darn good. The Flaine bowl hasn't filled in properly yet so not all of the skiing is open but what is is excellent. Snow on Monday was great even down to 1100 metres. I wish I was still there.

The Grand Massif hands free pass actually works, unlike the Portes de Soleil hands free, which requires a lot of embarrassing rubbing against the panel (that's what I told the gendarmes, anyway).
The snow is still pretty good, very good skiing down to Samoens and Les Carroz, at least.
