Plans for the proposed £350 million Snoasis snowdome and leisure complex in Suffolk went on public show this week at the planned location - Great Blakenham - between Ipswich and Norwich.
The scheme includes what's claimed to be the world's largest indoor ski slope, a hotel, 300 skiing lodges, an ice arena, golf course and other leisure facilities.
Here are the latest visuals: Full perspective......Full concept plan......Full cross-section......Full entrance image
And a news report from East Anglian Daily Times.

Masque, with your history of injuries is it wise to even be thinking of riding a bike?

One month on...and local concerns are being expressed about policing of Snoasis.
This report from BBC Online.
I could crack a gag about piste police at this juncture, but will refrain from doing so.

That's great news but only if it comes to fruition...but £350m?????? Hmmmm....looking for quite a return methinks! Maybe they're thinking of charging as per your recent article about that one in the states!
Bet you a pair of new skis it won't happen. I'll not be greedy...i'll have a pair of those hand sculpted wooden ones please David.

It is now nearly five years since the Snoasis project was first publicised. The Evening Star in Ipswich has this update today on progress.
Quote: |
Godfrey Spanner, of Onslow Suffolk, said work on the construction phase was expected to start towards the end of October and would last 30 months, with the centre due to be ready to open in the spring of 2013.
Under the terms of planning consent for the development, the main snow dome and conference facility are due to be built first, followed by the visitor accommodation - totalling 3,500 beds - and associated services including 17 bars and restaurants. |

400 and something metres - enough for FIS slalom races.

SSE won't allow that, indoor slopes are "artificial" just like dry slopes.

rjs, Landgraaf has held FIS races. I see no reason why SSE wouldn't want to have FIS races there. The other indoor slopes aren't long/steep enough for FIS-homologation or for SSE to consider races held on them 'snow' races for points etc, but if this place ends up long/steep enough....

Landgraaf has had EC races. They have had FIS points awarded but, I believe there was a hell of a process to get this allowed by FIS.
I think they would be pushed to have a slope with less vertical drop and shorter length than Landgraaf to allowed to run a race for FIS points. It may transpire that this is done but over 3 runs, not 2.
If it is 400m, I've heard that 300m is nearer to the truth.
