Great report Frosty the Snowman. I agree with everything including l'Ancolie and Le Rascard being two of the best resort restaurants I've ever found. The '?' next door to McKinleys is known to everyone as Willy's Bar, although I'm not sure if there are any signs to support that. Its owned by Willy, who is the son of the Relais hotel proprietors. I've been to LaRos 5 or 6 times now, always with Ski Olympic. I can recommend their chalets Oliver and Planica in the same resort. The Petite Danois (used to be known as the Yeti Bar) has live music once or twice a week and is about the closest you'll get to the hedonistic apres experience of larger resorts.

They don't provide a nanny service unlike, say, Ski Esprit. I've stayed in SO chalets with very young children (other people's, not mine) where the chef has done a special children's teatime about 6pm, but that's about the extent of it. They certainly don't advertise themselves as a "family with young children" specialist.
I've never been with Ski Esprit, who do specialise in family trips although I've heard good things about them. They also have a strong presence in La Rosiere.

Hi Thanks for reporting on La Rosiere, Im there in 2 weeks and was wondering whether to get lift passes before we go ? also Best Hire shop, Just had bad experience with Ski Set in Les Deux alpes 3 weeks ago so didn't really want to use them again.... Thanks

Hi Just back from a week in La Rosiere, having read all the views etc (good and bad) we went open minded!! Booked 3 weeks before with Nielson (via bookable ski.com) for a bargain £330 pp catered inc transfers, flights etc. After a 4 hour delay we finally got going to find the heaviest snowfall I have ever seen  The coach transfer was the scariest ever, the coach slipping round the mountain bends  we walked the final uphill to the chalet, finally arriving just before midnight, to be greeted by lovely hosts, a 3 course meal etc! We stayed in Les Balcons in the Eucharts area. Lovely chalet, four ensuite rooms with bubbly baths! sep shower too!! Booked our equipment the day before we left through Snowbrainer.com, at the Olympic shop near to the chalet. Extremely good quality and good service! Cost £400 for 8 of us! (8 skis, 4 boots).
We could ski to and from the door. The first couple of days were windy and very cold followed by the rest of the week no wind and full sunshine all day, perfect 
We all loved La Rosiere, there were pistes for everyone in our group, the kids especially liked the green La Foret, with the bumps and jumps through the trees, I skied more reds than I have ever done, finding more confidence each day, loved the Fontaine Froid, quite a challenge for me, loved the Marmotte and The Roc Noir! think the Gellinote was our favourite blue!
(sadly did not get time to check out the snoggable bloke, maybe next time  ) We skied to Italy, found the drag lift not so bad, infact the drag at the Roc Noir was almost as long! the red no 7 I found quite tricky due to the angle of the piste turning at each bend. skied a few runs in Italy, but preferred La Rosiere! (many will disagree), we seemed to spend a lot of time on lifts in Italy!

We ate at la Grange, the pizza place one night, that was really good, not expensive. Had a few coffee stops, more expensive than previous trips due to the pound/euro, but we also ate lunch either at the chalet as it was so easy to get to or there is a picnic area inside the ESF building by the Roches Noir chair.
We're not big on nightlife but guessed its fairly quiet at night, mostly a family resort, although the Moo Bar is said to be busy and has pole dancing
All on all we had a great time would definately recommend it, the only downside was a long transfer made worse by flight delay and someones lost baggage going out and heavy traffic on the way back. And my friend injured her knee, missed the last 2 days skiing, and now has a long recovery A great holiday, lovely chalet, and fantastic conditions and weather

Went to La Ros Jan 31-Feb 7 with a group of friends aged 25-32 of mixed abilities 4 skiers and 2 boarders. There had been good snowfall before we arrived so pistes were in excellent condition and we were well looked after by Ski Beat. I can also recommend the service at Twinner for ski hire.
It is definitely a windy resort which can make for cold lifts and the snow being blown from the pistes quite quickly. However the Italian side (la thuile) is fantatstic and made the holiday. Clouds get caught on this side of the mountain meaning itgets more snow, no wind but less good vis at times. If you are looking for good off-piste the Italian side seemed very untracked ( I think it might be illegal in fact) and we found excellent untouched powder even 4 days after snowfall.
La Ros and Eucherts are lovely compact centres and it is easy to walk or bus between the two. You can ski into both. I recommend this resort for families and those not too concerned with night-life (the Moo Bar and Petite Danois are it really). Make the effort to get to Italy and you will enjoy th eskiing also.
Finally the board park above La Ros is great fun with some small jumps to get even the most timid guys started so make sure you give it a go.

signatureboarder, it is not illegal to ski off-piste anywhere in the Espace San Bernardo, it's just that the Italian preference is for well manicured pistes. More snow actucally falls on the French side of the Col de Petit San Bernard but because La Thuile is north facing there can be better snow retention, although the runs back to La Thuile are often closed earlier than the runs to La Rosiere because of it's lower altitude.
