Looks about right. I tend to use just a hi wicking base layer and shell jacket on top unless it's very cold as I expend a fair bit of energy skiing and I tend to overheat. If really bitter I'd add a thin fleece sweatshirt.

jb1970, are you warm enough and dry enough? if so, then yes it's the right amount and combination. If you are cold and wet, then it's not......
In Selva last week I ended up wearing 2 base layers, a fleece and jacket on top and 2 pairs of thermals and sallies on the bottom - I was "just" warm enough

Jeez, I normally just wear a base layer top and bottom under my ski suit and none of the other stuff and frequently feel hot. If I wore any more layers I'd melt. Am I warm-blooded or something...?

Possibly, but so am I, and I usually also wear just a base layer and my jacket and Salopettes.
The only time I've ever felt the need for thermals was in Canada - when the temperature was -29C.
I've usually carried a sweater or fleece top with me, to add if I did get cold, but I have never actually put it on, so I think I'll stop bothering unless the forecast is for very cold.

I think I'm just getting old  . I was like you alex_heney, never had thermals until a couple of years ago and happily skiied Canada in v cold conditions with only a base layer but I was almost hypothermic at the very top at Col Raiser.

I once experienced -26 degree C at the Aiguille de Rouge in Les Arcs. In Norway and Sweden our normal wardrobe will be "light". You can test your warm blood there in Christmas times.
France, especially late in the season, is warm by the European standard. My Jan trip to Switzerland started several mornings with -16 degree and 2 layers of fleece, one layer of Gortex plus usual underwear were barely enough for the upper body.

No such thing as the "right" stuff to wear. It will vary considerably from person to person, and from day to day. Wear what works for you, from performance, fit and style points of view.

I think the coldest I've ever had was -12ºC which was fairly brrrr on the chairlift but fine moving about. However last season in Kitz the temperature varied from -4º to 2º and I ended up abandoning the base layer for a T-shirt...
Might also be the menopausal hot flushes at work...
