Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Miller in pain when skiing

Bode Miller's ankle injury is hurting, which is affecting his skiing and his head, he has claimed at a press conference. Yesterday, he ‘only’ came second in the Lauberhorn downhill at Wengen (Switzerland), a race he has won in the last 2 years, and this added to his season-long winless streak of 19 races.
Miller says that his left ankle, which he injured in December at Beaver Creek (USA), is hurting every day and slowly wrecking the defence of his World Cup title.
Worse, he claims that it is killing his fun of skiing. "I have both physical and mental pain when I ski right now," said Miller. "Every day my ankle hurts," … "I'm not able to ski at the level that I want to ski at. That's little bit distressing over a long period of time. Especially when you don't have the results and you have to deal with all the other stuff that comes along with that."...The Lauberhorn downhill was won by Didier Defego (Switzerland) and Marco Sullivan (USA) came third.

The super combined on Friday was won by Carlo Janka (Switzerland), with Peter Fill (Italy) and Silvan Zurbriggen (Switzerland) came in second and third.

Then why doesn't he stop and let it heal? Or is this his "excuse" for this season? rolling eyes

el Hen, never (ever) thought I'd have something in common with Bode... Shocked Samerberg Sue, perhaps it won't now heal, wrecked ankles can often stay wrecked. Next stop fusing possibly and that really will be the end of cometitive skiing (I think).

I quite like Bode but it was also nice to see the Swiss back in the medals

Frosty, it was a sort of tongue in cheek comment, but he does always seem to have some excuse or another. Apportioning blame is one of his favourite occupations - too steep, too flat, bias towards/against Europeans/Americans, team coach no good/personal coach, no good, etc. Perhaps he should focus on what he is not doing himself correctly because there is no doubt that he is an exceptionally talented skier.

Sorry but I simply don't like him as a person, having seen plenty of interviews on French/German TV as well as listening to him on UK TV. Comes across as overly arrogant and self-centred, and having encountered him at Kitz and St Anton I have to say nothing occurred to change that. Some people might say that he needs to be in order to focus in being the best but I have met many other top sportsmen and women and not found them to be as self-centred. He does not even seem to be too popular with his fellow Americans on the circuit. I trained with Anne-Marie Gerg (ex-German team) last year in a rehab centre for sports injuries along with Vroni Staber and Michael Uhrmann (top German ski jumper until he smashed a bone in his foot) - all of them were very approachable and friendly, despite being elite athletes. Maybe it is a cultural thing as the top Austrians and Germans seem to be much more approachable and tolerant of others.

I like seeing more variety in the share out of the medals too! Pity that, despite all the hard work of the individuals none are ever going to be coming the UK's way Crying or Very sad

He should see a decent boot fitter - I had sore ankles and that sorted it right out.

Not quite true! Alain Baxter got one and then had it unjustly taken away again! But yes, we are not exactly swimming in medals!
