The top one is superb, but something about the roofline to the left is the second is giving me an escher-esque headache.

paulio, Yes every lift in the valley.
dublin1, You take say, 3 photos of the same thing all at different exposures (not possible with all cameras) plus 1 or 2 and minus 1 or 2, the software then combines all the images optimising the exposures. The results can be stunning but to my eye can look a bit over produced. The top photo which is of Grands Montets looks to me like its printed on glass with a number of separate light sources.

When I was in the tourist office it said 4 lifts were open, I suspect these were the drags at the nursery areas Savoy & Planards

jbob, at last, someone who uses Photomatix correctly - glad you weren't taken in by all the extreme comic book effects that you see on cheesy photography forums
Great shots and brilliant post-production in PM. The bottom shot is flawless. The top shot, you can see some haloing aroudnd the conifers at the base but to me, they add to the effect for some reason.
You can run a HDR image off through Photomatix (or any other HDR software) by opening the shot (best to shoot in RAW for maximum tonal range), copying it and then pasting it into a new document in Photoshop before you amke tonal adjustments. This gets rid of the EXIF data. This means you can alter the same shot to produce three different 'exposures' from the same photograph, enabling you to run snapshot etc through Photomatix. If you don't bin the EXIF data, just altering the shot and saving three different versions won't fool the software, which will just load up the same shot each time.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

kitenski, I havent got raw on the camera I used so had to do several separate exposures, I used my car and a railing as a tripod, but although there is an auto alignment function in photomatrix i would say a tripod is practically essential.
BTW its bucketing down snow right now in Chamonix. CdM had a special arrangement to allow MBU pass holder to ski at Les Houches today, should be fun went it eases off.

More seriously, my better half might agree on a trip to Cham on 25-30 March. I suspect that we can expect decent snow still that time?

Aaah, that explains something that surprised me on Tuesday on the Kitzbühel slopes. Just beside the Pengelstein I lift I saw an ESF instructor from Chamonix with a couple of pupils. I wondered why he was so far from home
